Throughout all the years we’ve had Beagles, I’ve observed that the instinct to seek out blankets, dens, and places to “hide away” runs deep within them. As a scent hound, the Beagle finds den-like spaces to be absolutely ideal.
Charlie, Oscar, and Darwin—all of them loved nothing more than to “dig” themselves in. And they were quite inventive about it, too.
Nova is currently 11 weeks old, and she displays the exact same tendencies. She loves her sleeping crate, which feels just like a den—I’ve draped a blanket over the top that extends down the back.
Today, I watched her drag her “donut” bed—which is now too small for her—underneath my desk, right up against the wall. She curled up there and settled down to sleep.
So, I’m keeping this in mind: when she eventually “leaves” her sleeping crate to sleep out in the open in the bedroom, I plan to ensure she still has a “roof over her head”—perhaps a larger crate or something similar, but with the door left open.
