scent work

Being a Beagle means getting to use one’s nose—a task at which Beagles excel. As soon as they catch a scent, they are off!
That is why Nova gets to do scent work. It engages her brain and leaves her mentally tired in a natural way, which also helps her sleep better.
We use lick mats, as mentioned in a previous post, and Nova’s “dad” has now bought her a snuffle mat.
Nova tried it out yesterday, and it was a real hit.
Furthermore, as previously mentioned, she has started spending more time out on the street, taking in her surroundings. She still gets startled or becomes alert at unexpected noises—in those moments, we pick her up so she can observe from the safety of our arms. We “talk” to her a great deal, and she loves it. We are quite good at making up stories; it is—and has always been—a natural part of our lives throughout all the years we have owned Beagles.
