It is already clear that Nova loves being in a sort of den. Like most other Beagles, she really appreciates that den-like setup. All our previous Beagles loved blankets and their crates, where they could “hide” away.
Nova is no exception. She loves her nighttime crate—and right now, we are considering what to come up with for when she can no longer fit in the crate she currently sleeps in at night.
Today, I went to get a cloth diaper; I rolled it up tightly and tied knots in it, then popped it into the freezer. Nova will get to chew on it—her little teeth are very itchy right now. I have several other chew toys on the way for her; chewing on things like this helps calm her down.
I used this “cloth diaper trick” for both Oscar and Darwin when they were puppies.
While we were in the room getting the cloth diaper, Nova discovered her “donut” puppy bed, which had recently been washed. She just had to have it! So, we brought it into the living room, and Nova climbed right in and settled down to sleep. Once again, it’s a reminder that a den-like space is perfect for our Beagles.
Nova is an active little lady, which means she now requires larger portions of food. I’m not a huge fan of relying solely on dry kibble, so I’m combining it with wet food—wet food keeps her full for longer and is gentle on a little puppy’s stomach.
We also went for a short ride in the stroller, where Nova sat—and stood—watching the world go by outside the opening. She took it all in stride – and since she is already comfortable with the cart, I think it will be a great tool in the future.
