Darwin var ved dyrlæge d. 22. december, fordi han havde en voldsom bule i højre side af ansigtet. Dyrlægen troede først det var hans tænder – og besluttede at han skulle bedøves.
Senere fik jeg et opkald at hans tænder var i fornuftig tilstand. Dyrlægen drænede den voldsomme bule og Darwin skulle efterfølgende have antibiotika og smertestillende.
Men – desværre fandt dyrlægen en større cyste i maven på Darwin. Den er cirka på størrelse med en knyttet hånd – og det kan vi ikke gøre noget ved. I hver fald vil vi ikke udsætte ham for en større operation.
Vi ved – i skrivende stund – ikke hvor længe Darwin har tilbage. Men han spiser, drikker og går sine små ture – ligesom han også gør sit toilette. Vi følger situationen meget tæt og har dyrlægen lige ved hånden. Både dyrlægen og hans team yder en god støtte til os.
Der er ikke så meget mere at sige om det her – at vi tager det som det kommer og glæder os over at Darwin nu lever i sit 16. år og at vi har haft ham i alle de mange år.
Darwin was at the vet on December 22nd because he had a huge bump on the right side of his face. The vet first thought it was his teeth – and decided to anesthetize him.
Later I got a call that his teeth were in reasonable condition. The vet drained the huge bump and Darwin was subsequently given antibiotics and painkillers.
But – unfortunately the vet found a large cyst in Darwin’s stomach. It is about the size of a clenched fist – and we can’t do anything about that. In any case, we don’t want to put him through major surgery.
We don’t know – at the time of writing – how long Darwin has left. But he is eating, drinking and going for his little walks – and he is also going to the toilet. We are monitoring the situation very closely and have the vet on hand. Both the vet and his team are providing us with good support.
There’s not much more to say about this – that we take it as it comes and are happy that Darwin is now in his 16th year and that we have had him for all these many years.
